Biography of respected DGMS

Major General Quazi Md Rashid-Un-Nabi, MPhil, MPH become the the 20th Director General of Medical Services on 23 October 2024. He was born in a noble Muslim family in the district of Khulna. He is the fourth son of late Quazi Mahbubur Rahman and late Noor Zahan Begum. He was commissioned in the Army Medical Corps of Bangladesh Army on 09 July 1991 (with ante-date seniority on 09 July 1988).

Major General Quazi Md Rashid-Un-Nabi passed SSC in 1980 from St. Joseph's High School, Khulna and HSC in 1982 from Sundarban Adarsh ​​College, Khulna. He obtained MBBS degree from Sher-e-Bangla Medical College, Barisal under Dhaka University in 1990. He successfully completed BMTC-3 from Bangladesh Military Academy and also completed all other mandatory courses of Army Medical Corps. He completed 'Masters of Public Health' course in 2011 under Bangladesh University of Professionals. In 2018, he completed MPhil course on 'Health Care and Hospital Management' under Bangladesh University of Professionals. Apart from the academic success, he has also marked his excellence in the field of research works. So far, ten of his research articles have been published in reputed medical journals of the country and in three of which he was the Principal Investigator. He attended the '3rd International Conference on Disaster and Military Medicine' held in Germany and the '19th International Conference of Drug Regulatory Authorities (ICDRA)' held in India. He also Participated in a workshop on 'A Next-Generation Pandemic PPE Enterprise for Asia' held in Dec’ 2024 in Singapore.

Major General Rashid served in different appointments and in various units of Bangladesh Rifes. He has served as RMO and SMO of BDR Battalion & Sector, as Medical Officer in Jhenaidah Cadet College. He has also served as Commanding Officer of 61 Field Ambulance and CMH Syedpur, Commandant of CMH Jashore, ADMS of 19 Infantry Division, Deputy Commandant of Armed Forces Medical Institute. He successfully served as Director of Kurmitola General Hospital and Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. He was promoted to the rank of Major General on 03 December 2023 and was appointed as Commandant of Armed Forces Medical College. He is currently working as Director General of the Directorate General of Medical Service. Before join as DG, DGMS he has served as Director General of the Directorate General of Drug Administration for a short period of time. He served as Medical Officer in BANBAT-2 (UNAMSIL), Sierra Leone and MMRLU-1 (UNAMID), Darfur, Sudan as part of United Nations Peacekeeping Mission keeping under blue helmet.

Mrs Rozena Yesmin wife of Major General Quazi Md Rashid-Un-Nabi is a homemaker. They are blessed with one daughter and one son. Their daughter Sweata Rashid has completed BBA in Management and MBA in Human Resource Management from Dhaka University and currently working as Lecturer, Department of Management, Shaheed Bir Uttam Lt. Anwar Girls’ College, Dhaka Cantonment. Quazi Shadid Rashid, their only son, is a second year student of Mechanical Engineering at the Military Institute of Science and Technology, Dhaka.
