ARMED FORCES FOOD & DRUGS LIBRATORY

Introduction:

Armed Forces Food & Drugs Laboratory (earlier it was named as Mil Food Lab ) was located at Lahore, Pakistan. After the independence of Bangladesh, Armed Forces Food & Drugs Laboratory started its msn on 02 Feb 1976 under the supervision of Directorate General of Medical Service Initially, the manpower strength was 21 and it was loc at 40, Cantonment Bazar area. Lieutenant Colonel Muhammed Emdadur Rahman was the raising Commanding Officer. A few days later the unit was shifted to 81, Dhamalkot area at a rental house and was again shifted to its present loc on 27 Feb 1983 with increased manpower strength of 31.

FUNCTIONS:

1) To test and analyze samples of all food-stuffs and assist Director General of Defense Purchase in ensuring the quality of food-stuffs procured or intended to be procured for the Def Forces and examining their fitness for consumption.

2) To undertake periodical examination of samples from reserve stock and assessing their storage life.

3) To analyze samples of drugs and medicines procured for the Defense Forces and assessing their storage life.

4) To make periodical examination of drugs and medicines in stock to assess their efficacy and fitness for consumption and assess their storage life.

5) To analyze samples of hygiene chemicals procured and assessing the storage life of these chemicals periodically.

6) To lay down standards and drafting Army Supply Corps specifications and prescribing limits for acceptance of food-stuffs.

7)To undertake investigation and research on any problem connected with food and nutrition of the Armed Forces.

8) To assist the Director General Medical Services in formulating diets of troops in health/ disease.
